Anybody ready for Christmas? No!? In truth neither am I. We had our first taste of winter in October, along with two inches of snow and a low of 16 degrees. This was a terrible shock to my system. But back to Christmas. The Law Family Homestead blacksmith shop would like to solve the problem of your hard-to-buy-for, "has everything already" husband or wife.
We are building knives again! Kit, up until about 10 years ago, was making and selling knives. The blacksmith shop became the center of activity recently in the forging of hinges, handles, and latches for our dairy barn doors. Now our last outbuilding, the dairy barn, is closed in and nearly complete on the outside.
The time is ripe to reopen a past chapter of our lives and begin forging knives again. Kit has over 20 years of blacksmithing experience. These knives are truly one of a kind, no two are exactly alike.
They are hand forged out of 01 steel on an anvil that is over 100 years old. They are annealed for drilling holes, final cleanup of metal, and then stamped with our name. They are then hardened and tempered. Exhibition or presentation grade desert ironwood is added, shaped and sanded by hand to a brilliant glasslike finish.
Kit leaves the knife blades with a hammer finish to show marks from the crosspein hammer, which is unlike anything shipped in from a commercial factory.
They are riveted with Mosaic Pins to add a classy touch to each knife. Each knife also comes with its own custom-fit, hand-stitched leather case. The case is built with a "locking" cam to be sure that each knife will be retained safely in its case while you are out and about doing your homestead or camp chores. The blades are sharpened to a razor edge by a local professional knife sharpener who puts a longer lasting convex edge on the blade. These knives may be purchased as a “His and Her Set” or individually. Prices below.
